The ride participants are women diagnosed with breast cancer and it's produced and promoted by a strong group of ladies that go by the name of Amazon Heart. They are a peer support group for women with breast cancer with a focus on young women targeted with this disease.
The ride takes place in California, beginning in Los Angeles and concluding in San Francisco. It's an amazing adventure for these women who no doubt come away from the event with fond memories, strong friendships and a renewed and revitalized outlook on life all the while raising $1,500 per rider for their cause.
This is the fifth year for the ride that was inspired by an incredible event that took place in Australia. In 1996, several breast cancer survivors succeeded in a challenging motorcycle ride around their country covering approximately 10,500 miles in three months. Picking up on this idea, Amazon Heart had their first motorcycle ride event in 2004 called "Changing Gears." It was in 2006 that the name was changed to Amazon Heart Thunder and has been going strong ever since.

Along with the California ride, there is also one scheduled to take place in Australia in October of this year.
If you know of a breast cancer survivor who would like to participate in this year's ride or would like to know more about Amazon Heart, please see their website at www.amazonheart.org . New riders are welcome and encouraged. The ride is sponsored by Harley DavidsonŽ who generously loans motorcycles to the ladies for their ride, supplies them with brand new leather jackets and transportation of the motorcycles for the event.
