Sterling Silver Jewelry
Tips on keeping your jewelry looking its best!

Cleaning your Sterling Silver Jewelry

You should really only use a silver polishing cloth for cleaning silver and only on occasion use the silver pastes or polishes. Why? A few reasons.
  • First, silver is very porous and soft. If you have ever had your ring go out of shape, you know what we mean. Using a polishing paste constantly will build up in the silver and can actually make it look dull.

  • A silver polishing cloth will remove the surface dirt and leaves a protective film of anti-tarnish material behind. Using a cloth gently on a regular basis won't hurt your silver like a paste can.

  • Don't use silver polishing paste on or near your gems. It can scratch them up and leave you with a sad looking stone. Also, some gems are porous and you won't be able to remove the paste from the stones. The stones are ruined.

  • Avoid silver polish near and intricate details. Again, you will have a hard time removing it from these places and you'll see that white looking gunk stuck in your very pretty ring. Only use a paste on your jewelry if you absolutely need to.

Additional Tips!!

  • Keep the tarnish off your silver! How? If you are not wearing it, store it in an air tight case or plastic bag. Oxygen is what causes the reaction. Keep the oxygen away, no more tarnish.

  • Your silver won't tarnish if you are wearing it. Why? Because of the natural oils on your skin. It protects your silver from the elements and will keep it tarnish free. Remember to store it if you aren't wearing it.
